About Us

The idea of the Burden Bearer’s Project, Inc. was conceived in 2016 when the President of the board of directors had significant financial changes following a divorce. He became the non-custodial parent and within the first year of the separation his savings was depleted. As he worked to establish a new life, while also not further disrupting the normalcy of his children’s lives, he realized the difficulty many unwed-fathers may experience. During this difficult period he often considered the emotional toll on fathers with low income and financial hardships to support their kids. Talking with friends in similar situations and realizing the blessing of his profession to manage life’s financial transitions made him keenly aware that low-income single men need assistance to alleviate stress so they can enjoy being a dad.

The 2016 United States Census Bureau reported that there were 2 million single-fathers. Single fathers constitute 16% of single parent families. The number of single fathers has increased by 60% over the last ten years according to Single Parent Magazine and is also one of the fastest growing family segments in the U.S. 40% of single fathers are divorced, 38% were never married, 16% were separated & 6% were widowed. There is little research to validate the specific hardships of the single-father as a caretaker; however, there is a lot of information on the hardships of a single parent household.

Unmarried-parents’ household income deficit also tends to put a strain on relationships between the parent and their child/children. We believe if low-income, non-custodial fathers had monetary support and encouragement they would experience less stress and better engage with their child/children.  Our desire is to ensure that children have the best possible opportunity for a great future through a positive relationship with their dad.  We want to empower fathers to be the dads they want to be and their children need them to be.

The Burden Bearers Project, Inc. was established on October 29, 2021 as a 501c3 non-profit organization. It exists to financially and educationally assist minority, low-income, non-custodial single-fathers in ways that will allow them to contribute to the needs of their child/children from infancy to young-adulthood (24 years old). This includes but is not limited to diapers, food, clothing, rental assistance, school supplies, computers for students, college entrance-exam prep, college tours, resume building & job interviewing workshops.

Our vision is simple, “Help ease the financial burdens of single fathers thus enhancing the joys of being a dad.” The Burden Bearers Project, Inc. fills an important unmet need in our community. We will help our recipients with through fundraising efforts, donations & grants. Your tax-deductible contributions will impact a generation of young people through the irreplaceable support from their fathers. We believe this will have a long-term effect on the next generation to become emotionally and socially healthy citizens.

We believe all fathers should play a significant role in their children's lives. We are here to help single fathers enjoy being dads.
